Entry
Visitors get a visa for up to 30 days if they have a valid passport,
an onward air or sea ticket and proof of adequate funds. Any extension
must be requested from the Principal Immigration Officer.
Currency
The Pa’anga or Tongan Dollar T$ is legal tender. You can’t
get this currency outside of the country. The airport bank and the
banks in Nuku’alofa and Vava’u cash Traveler’s
Cheques and give cash out on credit cards.

Credit Cards are accepted in many shops, restaurants, bars and hotels
especially on Tongatapu and in Neiafu.

The national language is Tongan. English is the business language

Climate, Weather
Tonga's climate is pleasant and warm all year round. It is slightly
cooler than most of the other South Pacific Islands. The dryer and
cooler months from May to October can be fresh at night with around
15-17 C. The annual temperature in Nuku'alofa is 23.7 C, humidity
76%.

Shopping
You can get fresh fruit and vegetables at the Talamahu Market in
Salote Road, Nuku’alofa. The market is open every day except
Sunday from 7am until 7pm. On the first level of the building there
is a large range of Tongan handicrafts, especially on the weekend.
The Langafonua Handicraft Centre in Nuku’alofa and Vava’u,
are good places to go too as is FIMCO, Friendly Island Marketing
Cooperative, in Nuku'alofa und Vava'u. The best time to get fresh
fish is early on Saturday mornings at the Fish Market on the harbour.
