Shopping
The market in downtown Papeete should be on top of every travellers
must see list. Especially the flower market at the weekend is very
beautiful. Colourful stalls with polynesian sarongs called Pareo’s
are outside the market. On the first floor are stalls with polynesian
handicrafts from the outer islands and a snack bar with Tahitian
specialities.
But the number one souvenir from Tahiti are black pearls from the
pearl farms in the Society and Tuamotu Islands. Nowhere else in
the world will you have more choice and cheaper prices than here.
General information about quality, size and price is available at
the Musee
des Perles in downtown Papeete.
