Samoa: Accommodations
There are not many beach resorts in Samoa. Two with international
standard are at the southern coast of Upolu, Coconuts
Beach Club and Sinalei
Reef Resort and one in the western part, Samoan
Village Resorts. The oldest and biggest hotel is the legendary
Aggie Grey’s
Hotel in the capital of Apia. Also most other places to stay
in Upolu are in Apia, which doesn’t have any beaches in its
surroundings.
But along the beaches on both islands you will find plenty of so
called beach fales (Samoan huts) for rent. They are have
an open structure on all sides, Samoan blinds give you some privacy
at night and protect you from bad weather. The villagers take care
of their guests, the rental rate normally includes 3 meals a day.
Cold (sometimes hot) showers and toilets are usually near by, and
mattresses or ground mats, mosquito nets (essential) and clean linen
are provided. You don’t actually need to pre-book a beach
fale. The best thing to do is drive along the coast by bus or rental
car, and stop at the place you like best. Staying in a beach fale
is an unforgettable experience not to be missed.
Tip
Leave your luggage at your accommodation in Apia and take only the
essentials with you. A towel, mosquito repellent, torch and sarong
(lavalava) are recommended. Don’t take valuables
with you.
