Samoa: Introduction
Samoa is the cradle of Polynesia, at least according to its inhabitants.
Even today the Polynesian way of life is still a central part of
Samoan culture. Samoans call it Fa’a Samoa, a lifestyle
which they sustain despite western influences, and a lifestyle which
seems to fulfill all our romantic expectations of the South Pacific.
A
Samoan village, with its open huts, fales, carefully manicured
lawns and gardens, its inhabitants strolling along leisurely or
dosing on mats, is a picture of peace and harmony which leaves a
lasting impression on visitors. The backdrop is a landscape of high
volcanic mountains, thriving with dense vegetation, tropical rain
forests and countless waterfalls.
