Fiji: Accommodations
The majority of accommodations is on the West Coast of Viti Levu
and on the offshore islands of the Mamanuca group as well as the
Coral Coast in the south. The hotels in Nadi and its surroundings
serve mostly as a stopover to other islands.
Most island resorts have bungalow-style accommodation which is
more or less modeled on the traditional Fijian Bure (house). If
you’re looking for total relaxation on your dream island and
with the comforts of a hotel, then an island resort is just right.
However, it is a kind of ghetto too. Tourists remain among tourists
and the contact with Fijians is limited to hotel staff.
If you prefer to go away from it all, you’re better off in
northern Fiji, like Vanua Levu and Taveuni and its neighbouring
islands.
