By Bus, Taxi
Buses connect nearly all towns on Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and Taveuni.
Between the capital city of Suva and Nadi on Viti Levu, there are
Express Busses along Queens Road in the South and Kings Road in
the North. Taxis
are reasonably priced and most have a taximeter. The tariffs are
fixed for trips from airports to different lodgings. For longer
tours it is worth negotiating the price beforehand or asking the
hotel reception.
Rental Cars, Traffic
You can rent cars at the airport and hotels. It is recommended to
rent a four-wheel drive for inland trips. Drive on the leftside
of the road. The maximum speed in towns is 50km/h, outside of towns
80km/h. Be especially careful at night and in the rain, as behind
every bend there could be cows, horses and dogs blocking the road.
Tip: In case of an accident, call the police. Most rental car contracts
have a clause that denies insurance cover if you leave the scene
of an accident without a police statement.
